Conversations with God

What God Said: A Book in Review

Have you ever wondered what your true life’s purpose was? Why other people seem to have a flow of abundance in their lives yet you work so hard to get what you have? Or maybe you wonder why happiness eludes you despite having blessings all around you?

Hey sensitive souls! Do those questions resonate with you? They sure did with me! I am so eager to share the book I have been reading with all of you.

About a month ago, I watched an unexpected short video that landed in my email somehow. I believe in signs from the Universe, and I believe this was one of them. The subject line of the email was, “Have You Ever Had a Conversation with God?”

The topic intrigued me given that so many of my April intentions were about my spiritual makeover, so I clicked on it and became even more interested. The gentleman featured in the video looked like a man that I could easily spend hours talking to while sitting back in an armchair sipping my tea. He was older and donned an attractive silvery-white beard. His voice was clear yet soft. He gave me a really comfortable, soulful feeling.

The man was Neale Donald Walsch. Maybe some of you have heard of him? I had never heard his name before, but his message spoke directly to my soul. He spoke about the course of his life from living on the street to becoming a New York Times bestselling author. Then, he discussed his book, Conversations with God. I was hooked!

He discovered the secret to going from longing and discontent to taking actions toward your dream life once and for all. He is living proof that anything is possible.

The Hunt

After listening to him talk, I immediately jumped on my computer and prayed that my library would have his books. Well, they did. Sort of.

Neale’s books cover intimate conversations he had with God (stay with me here, I know it might seem a little woo-woo), but his books were so packed with information, he had to write several just to cover all that he was downloading from his spiritual talks.

I couldn’t possibly read several books in one month, so I found the consolidated version of all of his books called “What God Said: The 25 Messages of Conversations with God That Will Change Life and the World.”

Yes! I’ll take that one! I put in the request for the book and a day later I received a call from our local librarian explaining that unfortunately the book was no longer in the system. My heart sunk, but then…

The librarian than said something miraculous. She asked, “Do you really want this book?” I exclaimed, “Yes!” She then said the kindest thing to me, “Well, we can put a search out in the state of Pennsylvania across all libraries and see if we can borrow it from them. Would you like us to do that?” She assured me that it wasn’t a hassle and that she’d be happy to look into it.

Ready, Set, Be Enlightened

Four days later, I was given the green light. The book had arrived! God must have wanted me to read these messages.

Truth be told, this book has taken me a while to read. Some of it has to do with how little time I’ve had for leisure reading these days, but most of it has to do with how deep and meaningful the material is.

I found myself reading, then re-reading, chapters in the book because it was simply so powerful for me. I believe God knows exactly what we need in this lifetime, and this book at this time, was just that. Page after page, Neale’s insights really opened me up to new perspectives and ways of looking at life.

I don’t know about you, but I believe in the power of manifestation. That is, if you can see it, feel it, and believe it, it can be yours. Whatever it is that you dream. It can become a reality. Sure, I’m a little skeptical of this concept, but I’m not sure why. I have seen it play out in my life.

Your Vibration Holds So Much Power

Along these lines, it’s important to be aware of your vibration. The thoughts and energy that you put out into the Universe will be returned to you. I’ve struggled with this concept over the years, but this book helped me understand this in a new light. It’s not always about how I’m treating other people, it also applies to how I’m treating myself. What thoughts am I having about my own life?

Am I loving myself? Do I believe I’m worthy of greatness and abundance? Can money truly flow and be available to me? The truth is, I’ve had some blocks when it comes to these things. If I got fired from a job, it probably was because internally, I never thought I was worthy of success. Who was I to be successful and earning money?

My energy was returned to me. I might have been really good at my job, but these internal messages played into my vibration.

Well, this book has helped me challenge those beliefs.

The Be-Do-Have Paradigm

One of my favorite chapters of the book discussed the Be-Do-Have paradigm. As Neale explained, most of the world has this backwards. We often think we need to have something before we can be a certain way or do a particular thing. Think about it. We often say, “If only I had more money, I would be less stressed and I could travel more often.” Sound familiar?

The reality is, according to God as Neale explains, we have to “be” what we desire, take action, and then have it. For instance, if you want to be happier, you first have to feel that experience. Genuinely find a way to feel happy. The quickest way to do this is to cause another to experience it because of you.

Causing another to experience what you wish to experience makes you aware that you are already the source, not the seeker, of that experience. Instead of trying to find what you want, give away exactly what you want.

If you choose to be happy, for example, cause another to be happy. If you choose to prosper, cause another to prosper. If you choose to be loved, cause another to be loved.

To learn more about this paradigm, read the book. Seriously, it’s mind opening!

Taking Action

What’s more, throughout each of the 25 messages from God, Neale provides an “Apply to Your Life” section where you can put his words into action. It’s one thing to simply read this book, but it’s a whole other thing to take it to the next level and follow his action steps.

Can you tell how passionate I am about what I am reading and learning?! I feel like this book was intended to help me shift out of the ‘stuck’, negative headspace I was in. I asked for a spiritual makeover and I’m getting one!

This Book is So Great

So as the title of this book suggests, Neale goes into detail about his conversations with God. His writing style is relatable and approachable, which I really appreciated. He is just a normal guy who happened to have a really spiritual experience that turned his life around. We can all find inspiration from that, right?

Without covering every thing in this book (because that would make a realllllly long post), I will tell you this. Conversations with God is now in my top five most influential books I have read in my lifetime.

Perhaps it’s because it came into my life at exactly the right time, or perhaps it was the lessons I needed to hear to take my life to the next level. Whatever made it so influential for me, I can only hope you feel the same way. Maybe you’re meant to read this book review because you too could benefit from its content?

If you’re looking for a new perspective on your life, pondering what your true purpose on Earth is, or wondering how you can develop into your highest self, I highly suggest picking up this book (or ordering a digital copy)and giving it a read. Then, go deeper and apply the messages to your daily life and see what happens. Just see.

If you’d like to connect with me around concepts in this book, I would love that! Let me know what you think. Leave a comment below or send me an email. Make sure you subscribe to stay posted on all my upcoming posts, too!
