The most recent book I read was The Soul of Money: Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Life by Lynne Twist. After seeing a few people on Instagram recommend this book, I thought it was right up my alley.
Whether you feel resentment towards money, believe there is a lack of money in your life, or simply desire to have a better relationship with money, this book was written to help you. But did it help me?
I delved into this book because I wanted to transform my mindset around money. As part of my spiritual makeover, I wanted to inspect my relationship and beliefs around money. Was I worthy of having money? Could there truly be an abundance in this world for everyone, not just the insanely rich? Did money really harness power or was that hogwash that our society wants us to believe? I wanted to know.
Sparing you the details, I simply did not connect with this book. I was looking for more of a self-help book around money, and this one did not meet the mark. At least not for me.
There was one gem throughout the book that I really liked. A Sufi poem:
Isn’t that beautiful?! It was a good reminder that you can ask the Universe for what you want. It is always listening. But be open to its response because it may not come in the form you’re expecting. But, fear not, it always arrives in its perfect timing.
The book also reminded me that we always have enough. Wanting more can be a slippery slope. Once you have “more”, you’ll most likely still desire more and more. Instead, it’s important to realize that what we have is enough. So much so that we can be the source of “more” to someone else.
Donate to charity. Volunteer your time. Offer love and support to someone in need. Choose to listen rather than talk. You can be the “more” someone else is wishing for.
So while this book didn’t reach me on the levels I was anticipating, it did leave me with a few nuggets I will carry forward. If you’ve read this book and are like the many on Instagram raving about it, I would love to hear your insights and how it touched your life.
Be sure to subscribe to read all about the next book I am already half way through! It is AMAZING and TRANSFORMATIVE!!
