My Very Favorite Green Juice

In honor of March and all things green, I wanted to share my very favorite green juice recipe with you! Have you gotten on the juicing train yet? If not, what are you waiting for? The benefits of juicing are far too great to miss out on!

I have been juicing for over a decade now because I love the many benefits juicing offers. Juicing isn’t more beneficial than eating fruits and vegetables in their whole form, BUT, it does give your digestive system a rest while still absorbing the nutrients and phytochemicals. In other words, it’s gentler on your system.

One drawback to juicing is that you lose some of the fiber that whole fruits and veggies offer. If you’re eating enough fiber in your daily diet otherwise, having a juice will not strip you of the benefits fiber brings to your body. Just be sure to eat enough fiber every day!

But let’s get back to the many benefits that keep me juicing nearly every day!

It’s also a lot of fun to play around with fruit and vegetable combinations. In order not to raise your blood sugar level too much, you’ll want to drink more green juices than fruity ones.

My general rule when I am juicing is to only incorporate one or two fruits. The rest are greens and herbs! But seriously, it’s so much fun figuring out what flavors taste best together and the options feel limitless!

I have an absolute favorite green juice, though! I have been using this combination for as long as I can remember. It might have been my very first juice now that I think of it. This one is my go-to recipe for over ten years. You know it’s gotta be pretty darn good!

Below is the recipe I use to make my juice OR you can make it a smoothie. All the same ingredients, either way! The only difference is whether you choose to use a blender or juicer.

The Very Best Green Smoothie and Juice Recipe

2 organic green apples (leave skin on)

2-3 cups of fresh spinach

1 cucumber

3 organic celery stalks

1 sliver of ginger root (peeled) – approx. 1 Tbsp

handful of fresh parsley

squeeze of fresh lemon or lime juice

DIRECTIONS:

Wash and clean each item before juicing it, please! (Even if it’s organic, it still needs to be washed!) You can juice the ingredients in any order, but save the squeeze of lemon/lime for after you’ve juiced everything else.

Once everything is juiced, squeeze the lemon or lime into the green juice and give it a stir to blend the flavors. Drink immediately to preserve all of the nutrients! VOILA!!

You have a healthy, quick, satisfying juice ready to enjoy!

Now, if you’re new to juicing or wondering what juicers to use, I have a few suggestions. I have two juicers and love both for different reasons.

I think my favorite is the Omega J8006 masticating juicer. While some food like apples need a little more preparation for this juicer since the shoot is narrow and cannot fit an entire apple, it produces a really great juice with little waste. PLUS, it’s super easy to travel with!

I also use the Cuisinart CJE-1000 for the ease of throwing whole fruits and veggies down the shoot. This one allows you to toss more in at once, making it a slightly quicker process. It still produces nice juice, but there is a bit more waste and the clean up isn’t quite as simple as with the Omega.

While I have never used a Breville, I know several people who like that brand too if you’re looking for a bigger juicer like the Cuisinart design.

Whatever you decide, I’m pretty confident that you will like the effects of juicing. Your body will thank you for feeding it high quality nutrients and it will also thank you for giving it a bit of a rest from hard digestion.
