Hey ya’ll! Thanks for checking in today! So…I was thinking, it’s important to share some back history to my life for all of you readers out there since so much of this blog will cover my health and wellness journey.
When the Going Gets Tough…
For the past several years, I have been struggling with some mysterious health woes. Countless days and nights, I would experience stomach cramping, a drop in body temp (I mean, the kind where you’re internally freezing and can’t seem to warm up no matter how many blankets and sweatshirts you pile on), shaking, nausea and diarrhea.
Most of the time, this was accompanied with a migraine headache. Ugh. THE WORST. If you’ve had migraines, you know exactly what I’m talkin’ about! I’d spend hours going back and forth to the bathroom (sorry for the gross details) for multiple toilet visits and to take hot showers in an effort to warm up my body.
Basically, I just had to let my body do it’s thing and I had to suffer while riding out the storm happening inside my body. Each time, it felt like my body was under attack and desperately trying to get rid of something. To this day, I still don’t know what causes “episodes” like this.
After recent months of constant nausea and stomach discomfort, I went to a Gastroenterologist. They ran tons of tests with nothing to show for it. I thought maybe I had celiac disease, but those tests were negative. “You’re fine, maybe it’s acid reflux. Here, take this acid-reducing medicine,” they’d say as they sent me on my way with no real conclusion on what my body was reacting to.
Something Simply Is Not Right
Being a highly sensitive person who feels everything and whose intuition is usually spot on, I knew something wasn’t right. It’s not acid reflux. Thanks, but no thanks.
The same process went for urgent care facilities and emergency rooms. Tests showed nothing of obvious interest. So, I was sent home with a prescription for anti-nausea medication and a referral for another specialist.
Frustrated and hopeless didn’t even begin to describe how I was feeling. I was feeling utterly let down, that’s for sure. Something isn’t right.
The Symptoms Keep Coming
More so recently, other symptoms have presented themselves: dizziness, tingling/numbness in my fingers and toes, fatigue, joint and muscle pain, headaches, a sensation as if something is crawling on my skin, severe bloating (I can’t even tell you how many people have asked if I was pregnant or when I was expecting…), dry skin and eyes, clicking, ringing, and itching in my ears, and occasional nausea.
So what the heck is it? Several people have suggested it might be Lyme Disease. Other people suggested food sensitivities. All of these are plausible you can bet that I am looking into them!
When Conventional Routes Don’t Answer Your Questions, Seek Alternate Solutions
I recently submitted several tests to my functional medicine doctor and I’m anxious for the results. Perhaps I will finally get answers to why I’m feeling so lousy.
I am soooo ready to have my energy and vitality back, you have no idea! I’ll be sure to share my results when I get them and keep you posted on my journey.
To be clear, I’m not against traditional Western medicine and doctors, I just don’t always think they are the best fit for me. I want a doctor to take time to get to know me, my history, and how I am feeling at this very moment.
Fifteen minutes with a doctor simply won’t allow for that. I don’t want to be prescribed an antibiotic just to cover up the real cause of the symptom. I want to know why the symptom is there in the first place.
And once I know that, if an antibiotic is the absolute best course of treatment, then that’s totally fine, but I’d prefer to use holistic ways of healing first if possible. Ya know what I mean?
I like to let my intuition guide me and I believe wholeheartedly that my body is capable of healing itself with time, proper nutrition, and a healthy lifestyle.
So, we will see where these next few weeks take me! I’m hopeful I will have some answers providing some direction. Fingers crossed…
