Hey Friends! Happy March to all of you! So many fun things are happening in my life right now and I can’t wait to share all of it with you. As you might recall, I set an intention in February to share my health journey via two media outlets.
Well, intention setting and manifesting works, ya’ll!
I was recently featured on the Smile on Purpose site’s “Stronger Than You Feel” series where I was able to share my story about breast implant illness.
Having this space to share my experience with other women brings me so much hope and gratitude. Please go check out my post and its take-away message on self-love.
Next, I was asked to be a guest on the Evan Brand podcast (find it on Apple iTunes or click on the link), which has a global audience. Evan is my functional medicine practitioner who has helped me discover some of the underlying causes for my declining health condition last year. His education and knowledge were major catalysts for all the lifestyle changes I have made over the past several months.
On the podcast, I was able to share my health journey from symptoms to breast explant surgery and to where I am currently. Please take a listen to the podcast (scroll down to my episode) and share it with as many people as you can. Seriously, this information needs to get out there to help other women!
So where am I currently in my state of wellness?
It’s time for my much anticipated health and healing update! Ya’ll ready to hear all about it?
Let’s Talk About Health, Baby!
As many of you know, last year was quite a doozy. My health took a drastic downward turn and my symptoms list seemed to grow by the day. Without any concrete answers from conventional doctors and specialists, I turned to a functional medicine practitioner who ran some more in depth tests on my stool, urine, and saliva.
Those tests were run in June 2018.
The tests shed some light on the turmoil that was taking place inside my body. I was riddled with inflammation, bacteria, parasites, and extremely high toxin levels.
Finally, I had some clues about what was underneath all of my symptoms. Then, I learned about breast implant illness and decided to have my 14 year old implants taken out. I knew that if I wanted the best chance at healing my body, I needed to explant. My implants were compromising my health in a major way!
To reclaim my health, I combined a herbal supplement regime, explant surgery, healthy intuitive nutrition, environmental and lifestyle changes, and various holistic healing modalities. I am so excited to share with you about where I am now (less than a year from my original testing date).
Drum Roll Please…
I just retested in late January (about 8 months after my original testing), and the results were eye-opening and incredibly encouraging!
First, my body got rid of the original parasite (Giardia) and some of the other “nasties” such as the adenovirus, staphylococcus, and other pathogens. My new testing revealed that I still have other parasites and opportunistic bacterias to address, but this was almost expected.
Upon my initial testing results, my practitioner told me that it’s very common to kill off one parasite only to find another lurking behind it. That was the case for me. So now, I will take measures to kill this one off.
Going into January’s testing, I kind of knew that I had a parasite because I had vertical ridges in my fingernails which is a common sign of parasitic activity in our body.
Testing showed that I still have some bacteria overgrowth and leaky gut issues, so I will continue to address those conditions with my herbs and nutrition.
But Wait, It Gets Better
But do you want to hear the most miraculous part of it all? You know those toxin levels that I shared in my Results Are In post? They were at crazy, scary levels and wreaking havoc on my body!
Well, after only 8 short months of holistic treatments, every single one of them decreased in number and some even became undetectable in my body. My jaw literally hit the floor as I compared my first round of testing results to my current.
The results were pretty drastic.
I was particularly interested in the MTBE (a gasoline additive) number since mine was the highest my functional medicine practitioner had ever seen. They were off the charts! I had around 35,000 units of this toxin detected, but now, my numbers were around 5,000!! Major improvement!
Now, I’m not out of the woods yet. 5,000 is still in the 75th percentile for this toxin, so I need to continue to get this number down, but slashing 30,000 off in 8 month’s time is pretty remarkable!
Everything I have been doing for my health has been working!
The trend continued with the other toxins. Numbers were all down or non-existent and none of them were in the danger-zone except for the MTBE. Hallelujah!
So Where Does That Leave Me?
So with my results, I will start on a new supplement protocol which is much less robust than the one I started last summer. I will be targeting my parasites, bacteria overgrowth, and remaining toxins.
In addition to using the herbs, I will continue using my healing modalities that you can find in The Sensitive Soul’s Healing Guide. If you’re interested in learning about my healing therapies, definitely check it out!
Symptoms Roll Call!
Upon starting down this path of healing, I was experiencing 30+ symptoms on a daily basis. Yes 30+! Can you imagine?! It was absolutely awful and it made me empathize with anyone dealing with mystery illness or chronic illness. Ugh, it was the worst and it was such a lonely place to be!
Buuuuuut, since applying my healing protocol, changing my lifestyle, and having my breast implants taken out, I am down to 2, maybe 3, symptoms. The other 28+ symptoms have disappeared!
Clearly, my breast implants were a huge piece to my puzzle. They were compromising my health unknowingly!
So since having my surgery, I have only had one true migraine. This is coming from a girl who used to have weekly debilitating migraines! So in 13 weeks, I have only had one migraine!
I seriously suspect that the migraine I experienced last week was a result of starting my supplement regime. My body was in a heightened state of shock and detox. As we know, my system is SO sensitive (hooray for being a highly sensitive person).
Tinnitus (constant high-pitch ringing in my ears) and sporadic days of low energy still linger, but all in all, I am so much better!
I have returned to exercising and can I tell you how much more pleasant running is without heavy implants laying on my lungs and heart?
Now, I actually feel like I have a spring in my step when I run! Just last week, I found myself running 3 miles at a time after months and months of no exercise. My body just felt so good!
I have also found that my body’s recovery period after working out is much shorter since explanting. My muscles will be sore for about a day or two, and then I’m ready to go again. With breast implants, my muscles would stay sore for at least a week!
My energy is much improved, my mood is much more stable and happy, and I can wake up in the morning without taking inventory of which joints hurt even before my feet hit the ground. Amazing!
I am sleeping much more soundly although I still wake up once or twice for bathroom trips or due to a 3.5 year old wanting snuggles. But overall, I feel more rested and ready for each day. Having more uninterrupted sleep results in far less irritability, more patience, and just a happier spirit.
So all in all, I am really proud of the progress I have made in 8 short months!
Making the changes I did to my lifestyle as well as to my family’s lifestyle have been well worth it. I firmly believe that when you know better, you do better.
Where I Was A Year Ago
A year ago, I didn’t know all of the toxic products and habits that were surrounding me. I was buying products without thinking twice about their ingredients and what effect those contents would have on my health.
I was drinking Brita-filtered water and bottled water under the assumption that it was clean and safe to drink.
Not that I wore a ton of makeup or skin products, but what I was putting in my hair, on my face, and over my skin was anything but safe and healthy. Now, I only use products that are EWG certified.
I also binged on chemical-laden food such as M&Ms, cookies, and ice cream. I’m proud to say I haven’t had a binge episode since March 2018.
Time to Wake Up, Buttercup!
You see, last year was a major wake up call for me. Health is our wealth. Without it, life isn’t as enjoyable and I experienced that first hand. The quality of my life was stripped away. The pain I felt on a daily basis became my primary focus because it simply was unbearable at times.
So while I could easily say, “Man, I wish last year never happened,” then I would be robbing myself of the life lessons that came from it. Some lessons I have taken away from last year are:
- Make health a priority.
- I want better education around wellness and body awareness for my child.
- Never take your health for granted
- Love those who lift you up, support you, and comfort you. Let go of those who don’t serve you, judge you, silence you, or bring down your vibration.
- Trust your intuition, but first, learn to listen to it!
- Stars only shine in darkness (find the bright spot to every dark situation)
- The body is miraculous and knows how to heal itself if given the chance.
- Be your own best health advocate.
- Make changes that feel best for yourself. It’s no one else’s decision.
- Use your story and wisdom to help others (hence this blog!)
Me First, Please
Having this journey has brought me so much appreciation for feeling good in my mind, body, and spirit. I have started putting myself first, which I think is pretty challenging for most women. Would you agree?
We always want to take care of others, but I have learned that if I don’t take care of myself first, I simply cannot care for others in the best way I know how. Filling up my tank, so to speak, is essential for everything else to run optimally.
While I am still learning how to do this without feeling guilty or selfish, I know without a shadow of a doubt, that it’s the right thing to do. Not only is it best for a highly sensitive person to do because our energy is depleted quite quickly, but it’s important for anyone to do because our health is that important.
Onward and Upward
So that is my health update for now. I anticipate that I will be going through some detoxing periods over the next few weeks as my body kills off viruses, bacteria, parasites, and toxins. With that comes flare ups of previous symptoms such as waves of tiredness, nausea, achy joints, headaches, emotions, etc. But in the end, it’s all worth it!
I hope that my journey inspires you to take care of yourself and to choose your health and wellness above all else. It doesn’t mean that other people and things don’t matter. It simply means that without your health, you cannot get the most out of this beautiful life. Truly.
Wishing you happiness, health, and heightened awareness. Love you guys! xoxo
