February is Self-Love Month

February is often known for the heart-filled holiday, Valentine’s Day. For some, this crafted holiday brings a lot of joy, harmony, and love. For others, it spawns bitterness, sadness, and sometimes heightens a sense of loneliness.

While I love celebrating love in any capacity, I do understand how this holiday might have the opposite effect if you feel like you don’t have anyone to share your love with.

But guess what? YOU DO HAVE SOMEONE!

YOU!

Every day should be a day to shower ourselves with self-love because we are miraculous beings! Our bodies, minds, and souls are doing so much work on our behalf. We should be returning our love with gratitude.

Looking Inward for True Love

So this month, I’d like to encourage you to stop looking outward for love, reassurance, and affection. This month, I want you to look inward. Provide those things for yourself.

When you have a strong self-love foundation, you aren’t reliant on others for approval, satisfaction, or anything else for that matter. You’re already complete and full. Trust me, it’s a great feeling!

When I was a school counselor, I would always encourage my students to be “full of themselves”. Not in a cocky, arrogant way, but in a self-loving sort of way. There is no better feeling than to be than fully accepting and loving of yourself.

Knowing Your Self-Worth is Like Having Gold in Your Pocket

When you realize just how valuable and worthy you are, you stop needing those outside sources to guide you and inform you. Those sources might be a spouse, partner, friend, parent, sibling, coach, teammate, social media, magazines, etc.

If you’re loving yourself just the way you are, then that’s all you need! Self-love is the greatest wealth!

How to Practice Self-Love

So how can you practice self-love this month?

I will be sharing self-love all throughout this month. I’m so excited for you to try some of the practices I suggest if you haven’t already incorporated them into your life.

So as this month begins, I want to encourage you to take a step towards inward exploration. Write down 2 to 5 personal intentions you wish to focus on this month.

(Hint: If you’re stuck creating your own, check out my past monthly Intentions posts for some ideas)

Once you’ve written them out, please place them in a well seen space. Somewhere you’ll see them every day. It could be your bathroom mirror, the refrigerator, on the seat of your car, or set as a reminder on your phone. Just be sure to reference your written intentions every day!

Time to Take Action

The beauty about having monthly intentions is that they are there as reminders of what you had set out to accomplish. As you can see above, all of my intentions require actions from ME (no one else). This is important!

I am accountable for my own happiness.

Intentions are active, not passive. You must take actions towards achieving what your heart desires. You may not see immediate results, but that doesn’t mean that your desired result isn’t right around the corner. Stick with it!
